Let the Adventure Begin!

Today was an epic day for Laura Meda Photography. Firstly I received an email notification  from my tutor for the business start up course I had been working on since March, stating that I had passed the course. Unlike in the past where I’ve done courses and been desperate to pass to attain the certificate, with this one the certificate is more of an afterthought as my desire for doing the course has been more so about gaining the knowledge to properly start running a business and therefore get my business idea from just being that, an idea, to an actual functional operation. What was even more encouraging was that unlike in my other modules where completing the unit required a number of corrections on my part, this time for my final module I wasn’t asked to improve upon it and this was particularly significant because this module included composing my business plan. It’s full steam ahead now for Laura Meda Photography, no looking back. I’m so excited to see where this venture will go as unlike with other ideas I’ve had in the past I feel like I’m starting of on the right foot with an approved business plan in check.

Another exciting moment came unexpectedly as I went to the park with the littles this afternoon. There I met Claire (name changed for anonymity purposes), a 42 year old mum to the friendliest little one year old girl. She might have been little in stature but she was big in personality, constantly giving the warmest smiles. Claire epitomised my target market for Laura Meda Photography. As we were chatting and enjoying our little people, I shared with her the idea behind Laura Meda Photography. How as mums we get to spend days with our children enjoying the monumental developments and also comforting them over their falls and disappointments; whether we are running around in park, witnessing them take those first steps up the stairs, reading that favourite book or singing that favourite song for the umpteenth time in the day and when we look back over our phone camera roll we have plenty of evidence of these moments. Yet a big part of it is missing. As mums we tend not to make it in the day to day documenting of our photographic narrative of family life as it is now. Upon explaining to Claire about how Laura Meda Photography was set on rectifying this, she was really excited about this, as she recollected her own collection of photos over the last year, namely featuring her in the hospital upon the birth of her precious bundle then from then it mostly composed of daddy and daughter moments without much of her. This was very exciting for me as it is for women like myself and Claire that I’m am hoping to get this venture going.
